Malus coronaria

Height: 20-30'
Width: 20-30'
Bloom/Fruit: white/pink flowers in spring, small tart fruit

Fun Facts: It's the only apple species native to Ontario, where it can be found in Southern Ontario near lakes Erie and Ontario.

Good to Know: Susceptible to insects and fungal rust, so not always a great choice as a stand-alone ornamental and best used in conjunction with other plantings.  However, despite these visual imperfections, its contributions to wildlife are numerous. Early spring flowers are quite pretty and provide important pollen and nectar to our pollinators. Fruits later in the season are valuable to birds and many mammals. The tree itself offers prime nesting sites for many birds.
