We often get the question, "What do bees do in the winter?" It's a great question! In this class, we'll talk about what our bees are naturally inclined to do to prepare for and survive the cold months ahead.

Once we have a good understanding of what the bees are up to, we'll talk about what we, as beekeepers, can do to stack the deck in their favor. We'll cover how big a colony should be and how much honey they should have stored up, as well as what you can do to remedy a less than ideal situation. We'll demonstrate the equipment we use in our apiary as we ready our colonies for winter and talk about the potential issues that can arise.

If you've never wintered a colony before, or if you've had issues in the past, this is a great opportunity to chat about what has worked well and also what has not.

This is a classroom-style class, so no bee suit is necessary. Please bring lots of questions!
